nature therapy as team building
Sensory - Calming - Connecting
One comment recently from a Private Walk for a Mentoring Group was:
“That it was the highlight of the retreat”!
There is no one in the world who is exactly like you! You are unique and one of a kind.
Just as every flower, leaf, tree etc are uniquely different.
Everything may be made up of the same material and look similar at a glance, but when you take the time to look deeply and reflectively you see that each one is unique and different and beautiful…
By connecting to the natural world, you become more of who you are on a much deeper level.
Why I love working with groups and people during a weekend retreat or corporate week event…
When people have been together for a wellness retreat, mentoring workshop or corporate bonding retreat all kinds of challenges, experiences and mind play can arise. Where they may not have necessarily felt ‘safe’ to open up during the retreat, during a guided walk, nature gently holds them and can allow them to feel safe and supported to do so.
For me during this time; I feel like I’m wrapped up in my grandmother’s arms.
I can breathe deeply, let go, pause and reflect.
I no longer feel alone, scattered, upset or challenged. It all drops away and a deeper peace flows through me.
As one participant from a group put it recently…
“I haven’t felt connected to any of you during our time together on this retreat, but now I feel a deep connection to you all”.
balanced - belonging - bonding
When I first meet the participants, we all seem a little nervous, not sure of what to expect. I have to let go of any outcome and trust that Nature is taking the lead. I gently guide, but I don’t know what each participant needs, that’s between them and their surroundings. Then after our first sharing we settle slightly and you can literally feel the group breathe deeper and calmer and the magic of being in nature produces is beginning to weave itself throughout the group.
We can all see how different everyone is and how each person has something unique and important to share, and we are beginning to understand each other … just that little bit more.
I love hearing the different experiences that each person shares with the group and the way that we all listen, hear and care about what each other has to say…
Slow - Silent - Supporting
The invitations that I offer during a walk creates a bond between each participant and their environment. Sharing and listening creates a bond, one that can be unexpected when someone in the group shares on a deep level. The depth of sharing is not usually found in conversations in our world today. This is such a unique gift to all involved… and as a guide feel so blessed to be a part of this.
The simplicity of the invitations allow the participants to work together, on a level that may have been forgotten. Remembering the joy of exploring just for the pleasure of it. This is the beauty of Nature Therapy. It’s simple, yet so very powerful.
By the end of the walk and during our tea ceremony the participants are feeling calmer, and connected. This is when their creative geniuses comes into play. and their uniqueness, gifts and talents can spring forth in their mind. and all kinds of creative projects may come bubbling to the surface…
